Through Outreach and Awareness which is crucial to the movement and with the help of our funding partners, Ministry of Health and Child Care, VFU. The Adult Rape Clinic Programs Department is always ready to work and visit communities who need information on Sexual Gender Based Violence.

Clinic Activites

ARC offers the following Free Post Rape Services for survivors:

  • Psychological support/ counselling
  • Voluntary HIV Counselling and Testing (VCT)
  • Administering of Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP)
  • Prophylaxis and treatment for Sexually Transmitted Infections (STIs)
  • Pregnancy Testing
  • Administering of Emergency Contraceptive Pill (ECP)
  • Medical examination and collection of forensic evidence
  • Follow up care
  • Referral to other services

To date, ARC has attended to 3,390 new cases, 3,163 Females and 213 Males.

Outreach and Awareness

The ARC outreach and awareness team has reached almost half a million people from 2010 to date. The SGBV awareness campaigns and prevention messages are disseminated in schools, workplaces, churches, tertiary institutions and public places. Our outreach and awareness strategies consist of the following;

  • Sensitisation of Community leaders and community focal persons
  • Open air road shows
  • Posters, flyers, newspaper adverts, bulk sms messages
  • Radio and TV shows
  • Focus Group Discussions
  • Social Media
  • Community dialogues and educational talks

Training

Over and above providing holistic care, treatment and support to rape survivors, the other core function of the ARC is to provide continuous learning for medical and nursing professionals and other stakeholders in the management of rape. Various members of staff and other stakeholders, including medical personnel, members of the police Victim Friendly Unit and judiciary, Social Welfare Officers, MWAGCD officers participated in training activities aimed at broadening their skills and awareness of issues surrounding the clinical management of rape survivors.

To date, ARC has trained over 60 medical doctors, 340 RGNs, 213 VFU police officers, 28 Social Welfare officers, 43 Public Prosecutors, 3 magistrates and 55 MWAGCD officers.
